What Coverage Do You Need?
If you’re close to being eligible for Medicare, you may be wondering which part of Medicare is right for you and if your spouse’s policy could impact yours. Medicare is designed only to cover a single individual, not groups of people. So, your policy choice shouldn’t be dependent on your spouse. However, you should pick a policy based on the coverage that you think you’ll be using so you can reduce possible medical bills and save money in the future.
It’s definitely possible that you and your spouse could select the same Medicare plan, but many people pick their Medicare coverage based on their own individual health needs and budget. You should never enroll in a plan just because someone else is enrolled and likes it. They chose that plan for their specific needs, so you should choose a plan that meets your specific needs.
If you are sticking with Original Medicare (Part A and B) and want prescription drug coverage, you should also enroll in Part D. You could even add on a Medicare Supplement plan to help cover some out-of-pocket costs.
Or, if you want the possibility of having dental, vision, or hearing coverage, you’ll want to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan that offers the extra coverage. This is an excellent option if you want to expand your coverage and get more coverage than what Original Medicare provides.
